I feel that more people can keep updated if it is not private. Making sure everyone has access to the site that you want to see it sounds like too much work for me. I am sure there are benefits to private, but I have yet to see enough to make me want to go private.
It's good if you have stalkers you don't want looking at your blog. I personally find it annoying to have to log in to look at a private blog. And they don't show up on your links of blogs as updated so you have to log in all the time to know when they update. I tend to not even look at my friends blogs that are private because of that.
I went private for about 3 days, and everyone had so many problems veiwing my blog. But I know some people who have no problems. I think that most people go private when they have someone they do not want looking at their blog.
try the fejit thing i have on mine, you know who is looking, i'd wait till you have psycho people checking it. i hate private but i bet we will all have to go there someday...
Either way just make sure you still add me! I don't know about Private because I've never done it, as for open you just have to make sure that you're smart about what you post. Some people put their blogs to private but then they keep their profile updated, which anyone can access so that defeats the whole private purpose. It's totally up to you.:)
I went private for less than one day. I thought I had added all the people who look at my blog but I got so many emails from friends, people I haven't talked to in a while but wanted to stay caught up with me through my blog. And like others who have commented, I rarely look at blogs that don't show as being updated on my blog list. Plus, I can't let myself start being paraniod about crazy people on the internet, if I do it with the blog, then I think about all the other areas of my life that I would want to set to private and have no control over... So I say no, in a novel length comment sort of way!
You can go private, just make sure you include us :)! Just kidding, I know it is kind of a hard decision, I have thought about it too. My problem is that I would then have to get everyone's email address to invite them, and it just seems like too much of a hassel to me.

Do it! The pros out weigh the cons. Do you want creepies looking at your adorable boys? I didn't think so. :)
